There was a time when I found myself in a particularly heavy place- feeling weighed down by anxiety, disconnection, and a sense that something needed to change. In that moment, I decided to try something simple, yet unfamiliar: I sat down with a blank piece of paper and began writing out everything I could think of that I was grateful for.

At first, it didn’t come easily. But I kept asking myself, “What else?”

And slowly, the list began to grow – family, friendships, small comforts, everyday moments. Things I had overlooked before started to come into focus. By the time I finished, I had written over 100 things, and something inside me had shifted. I felt lighter, more grounded, and more open.

What started as an experiment became a foundational part of how I move through life.

One simple approach: set a daily reminder with a prompt like, “What am I grateful for right now?” Then pause and reflect, even if just for a minute.

3. Go Deeper

As the practice becomes more familiar, challenge yourself to go beyond the obvious. Ask, “What else?” and allow your awareness to expand.

You might even try avoiding repeats – this encourages you to notice new layers of appreciation in your life.
