Personal Growth Begins with Reclaiming Yourself, Not Reinventing Yourself

For a long time, I believed personal growth meant becoming a better version of myself. More productive. More confident. More successful. More healed.

But life has a way of challenging the stories we tell ourselves.

After stepping away from my podcast for more than two years, I realized something that completely changed the way I think about growth: personal growth isn’t always about adding something new to your life. Sometimes it’s about returning to the parts of yourself that have been there all along.

That’s exactly what Season 2 of I Buy Myself Flowers is all about.

Why I Stepped Away

If you’ve followed my work for a while, you probably noticed I disappeared.

The truth is, I wasn’t taking a strategic pause or planning some dramatic comeback. Life simply unraveled.

Personal growth

Relationships ended. Friendships shifted. My living situation changed. My finances became uncertain. My confidence disappeared. The motivation I once had to create, coach, and build my business faded into survival mode.

For a while, my only job was getting through the day.

I didn’t know how to show up publicly while everything behind the scenes felt so fragile. I wasn’t interested in pretending everything was okay, but I also wasn’t ready to share what I was living through while I was still in the middle of it.

So I gave myself permission to step away.

Looking back, that decision wasn’t quitting.

It was honoring where I was.

Personal Growth Isn’t Always a Comeback Story

When people hear that a podcast is returning after a long break, they often expect a comeback story.

But that’s not what this season is.

I don’t need to prove that I’ve bounced back stronger than ever. I don’t need to have every answer before I press record.

Instead, this season is about something much deeper:

Reclamation.

Not reclaiming my business.

Not reclaiming my reputation.

Not reclaiming some former version of myself.

I’m reclaiming the pieces of me that I abandoned along the way.

Because somewhere between trying to be successful, capable, agreeable, and everything everyone else needed me to be, parts of me became quiet.

Those are the parts I want to welcome back.

What Personal Growth Really Looks Like

We often think growth means becoming someone different.

But what if it actually means becoming more fully yourself?

Throughout this season, we’ll explore the parts of ourselves we’ve learned to hide in order to fit in, perform, or be accepted.

Maybe you’ve hidden your emotions because you were told they were “too much.”

Maybe you’ve ignored your own needs because everyone else came first.

Maybe you’ve silenced your intuition because it didn’t align with what others expected from you.

These aren’t flaws.

They’re often survival strategies.

But the strategies that protected us in one season can keep us disconnected in the next.

Real personal growth invites us to gently ask:

  • What parts of myself have I abandoned?
  • What parts deserve to be seen again?
  • What would it look like to welcome them home?

You Don’t Have to Be Fully Healed to Begin Again

One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is that we don’t have to wait until we’re completely healed before we share our lives.

For a long time, I believed I needed to finish the story before I could tell it.

Now I know better.

Growth doesn’t happen after the journey is over.

It happens while we’re living it.

That’s why this season will feel different.

I’m not speaking from the finish line.

I’m inviting you to walk beside me while I’m still learning.

Because chances are, you’re in your own season of becoming too.

Your Own Reclamation Season

Although this season shares my story, it isn’t really about me.

It’s about creating space for you to think about your own life.

What are you ready to reclaim?

Maybe it’s your voice.

Maybe it’s your confidence.

Maybe it’s your creativity.

Maybe it’s your rest.

Maybe it’s simply believing that you don’t have to earn your worth anymore.

Whatever it is, I hope these conversations remind you that you don’t need permission to reconnect with yourself.

You don’t need a perfect plan.

And you certainly don’t need to become someone new.

Sometimes the most courageous thing you can do is remember who you’ve always been.

A Reflection for Your Week

At the end of every episode, I pull a prompt from my Nourished Life Coaching Companion Deck.

The question for this episode is one I’ve been sitting with myself:

How do you balance giving and receiving support?

Many of us have become experts at caring for everyone else.

Receiving support can feel uncomfortable, vulnerable, or even undeserved.

This week, notice where support shows up in your life.

Ask yourself:

  • Is it easier for me to give than receive?
  • What would it feel like to let someone support me?
  • What part of myself might I reclaim if I stopped carrying everything alone?

Sometimes growth begins with allowing ourselves to be held.

The Beginning of Something New

This season of I Buy Myself Flowers isn’t about perfection.

It’s about honesty.

It’s about choosing yourself again and again, even while life is still unfolding.

If you’ve been feeling disconnected from yourself, navigating change, grieving what was, or wondering who you’re becoming, I hope you’ll join me for The Reclamation Season.

Because personal growth isn’t about becoming someone else.

It’s about coming home to yourself.
